About Us - Who We Are

Welcome to the Fantastic Lesbians

We hope that lesbians of all ages, from all parts of the UK and from all walks of life, will find something of interest in these pages and that you’ll be encouraged to join us in building lesbian communities and developing connections between lesbian women everywhere.

Most of our members are based in the UK and Ireland, but we do have Fantastics from other parts of the lesbian world too. Our stories may be different, our experiences diffuse, but we are all linked by a desire to love women, to maintain our communities and to congregate with others who share our journey.

Fantastic Lesbians began as a little group of friends in Scotland who could see that, rather than becoming easier for lesbians, life was, in fact, getting more difficult; we were less visible, more isolated - and our essence was being diluted by other narratives and priorities.

All too often, our communities were struggling to find places to meet without intrusion. ‘Inclusion’ had led us, sadly, to a boundary-less place which was making lesbians feel more vulnerable and less seen. We decided that the best way to tackle some of the presenting issues was to simply be ourselves, to have fun with other lesbians, to be unapologetic for doing so - and to try to reach out to others who were feeling the need to create, to connect and to to be fantastic.

Particularly at a time when young lesbians are sometimes choosing to opt out of both lesbianism and womanhood altogether, we considered that making lesbian life more visible, more valuable and more available, would be the most encouraging route to take.

And what is the definition of a lesbian? A biological woman who is exclusively same-sex attracted. That’s it and that’s all folks!
